Review
A poignant story of four African-American men who bravely fought cancer.
Ron, Ellis, Preston and Ben were close childhood-friends who were diagnosed with cancer around the same time. They armed themselves with all available resources including the latest medical technologies, support from families and friends, as well as integrating love, faith, and prayer in their quest for survival. By telling their own stories, they want to raise awareness among African Americans that certain cancers are more prevalent in the African-American population and show how cultural and environmental factors may be contributing to African-American incidents of cancer. The most important message of this book is that you are in the driver’s seat on your road to health or disease. The latest technologies in the diagnosis and treatment are available but will not come to you unless you seek them out. You need to seek medical attention to get an early diagnosis and treatment, which can, in turn, improve survival rate. No matter what safety equipment a car has, you, the driver, are the most important safety feature in the car. When it comes to health care, you have to be the most important advocate for your own health.
