What is a PDF and how to create one.
A Portable Document Format (PDF) file is a self-contained, cross-platform document. In plain language, it is a file that will look the same on the screen and in print, regardless of what kind of computer or printer someone is using and regardless of what software package was originally used to create it. Although they contain the complete formatting of the original document, including fonts and images, PDF files are highly compressed, allowing complex information to be downloaded efficiently.

Step 1: Download the appropriate "settings" file for the platform you are working on.
Step 2: Uncompress the file.
Step 3: Place the file in the Settings folder inside your Distiller folder.
Example Windows: (C://Program Files//Adobe//Acrobat 5.0//Distllr//Settings)
Example Mac: (Macintosh>Applications>Adobe Acrobat 5.0>Distiller>Settings)
Step 4:
WINDOWS
Launch
Distiller and select BookMasters
From the Job Options pull down Menu. |
MAC
Launch Distiller and select BookMasters
From the Job Options pull down Menu. |

Step 5: Leave Distiller running in the background and go back to your page layout program and use its export as PDF option. Do not override Distiller’s settings. Instead, allow your program to use the Distiller settings you just selected as the Distiller Job Options.
Step 6: After you have created your PDF file(s), proceed to our preflight page where you can preflight your PDF file(s) prior to sending your job.
