Cover Set-up
Cover art needs to be
submitted in one file. The front cover should be on the right, the
spine in the center and the back cover of the book on the left.

Layout Pointers:
- If the cover art has a background
over the entire area a 1/8 inch bleed should fall outside the
final trim size of the book on all sides. (Blue area shown
above.)
- Keep all type and art such as the
barcode at least ¼ inch away from the edge of the final trim size.
(White area shown above.)
- Spine copy should run top to
bottom as shown above. A logo or others type such as the company
or author name can be placed on the spine in an upright position
if the spine is wide enough.
- Photos need to be scanned at
300dpi.
- It also helps to scan the photo at
the size to be used on the cover. Example: A full background
photo should be scanned at a much larger size than a photo of the
author. A 4 x 5 photo would scan from 200 to 300 percent larger to
cover the area of the cover and the bleed as much as possible.
Spine Formula:
If you use 60# White paper –
Page count ÷ 435.
Example: A page count of 320 ÷ 435 = .74 spine width
If you use 60# Natural paper –
Page count ÷ 420
Example: A page count of 320 ÷ 420 = .76 spine width
