There are so many opportunities, rewards, pleasures, and "mountaintop" experiences available to all of us - if we just know how to make them happen. I have come to realize that the most important ingredient in this success is communication between people.  If you can convey your thoughts, ideas, feelings, and goals with power and persuasion, you will create a life of true greatness.

Over the course of my career, I have sold more than half a billion dollars in products and services - all through the power of persuasion.  What I have found, however, is that the principles involved in selling products and services can be applied to improving our personal lives as well.  To be persuasive, you "sell" yourself and your ideas every day. You communicate in such a way that you persuade others to your way of thinking, gain respect and loyalty, and further your most cherished dreams and goals.

What is "Selling" and "Persuasion"?

I hope that the following definitions will help the reader or student feel confident in using the definition of persuasion  as a multi-purpose tool and in communicating with others.

Let's look at some definitions:
In the Dictionary:
Selling: To make acceptable, believable, or desirable by persuasion. To bring around to a favorable way of thinking.  To gain acceptance or approval.

Persuasion: The act of persuading. The power or ability to persuade.  A way of believing. Having the power or effect of persuading.

In the Thesaurus:
Selling: A transaction.  To sell or be in the business of stock or carry traffic of the market. Handle.  Peddle.  Selling ideas for sell support.  To get acceptance for, win approval for, get support for.  To get across or promote.  Persuade of.  Convince of.  Talk someone into.  Bring someone around to.  To induce to.  To win someone over.

Persuasion: Winning over, inducement, convincing, coercion, influence, opinion, conviction, school of thought, philosophy, compelling.

We all need to be persuasive in some form during our daily lives.  Maybe you will need to persuade a business associate, a customer or client, you husband or wife, your children, your neighbor.  We are constantly exchanging ideas back and forth.  Communication, selling, and persuasion are all members of the same family.  All the material in my book will help you communicate, persuade, and sell your way to your life goals by first laying the foundation of character and persistence.

You will learn not only what it takes to be persuasive, but how persuasion works, and why.  People don't buy hearing aids; they buy hearing.  They don't buy plane tickets; they buy fast transportation.  They don't buy an easy chair; they buy comfort.  They don't buy a beach umbrella; they buy shade.  They don't buy a television; they buy entertainment.  They don't buy life insurance; they buy peace of mind.

Someone once said that nothing happens in life or in industry until someone sells something.  It is my sincere desire that what you learn in this book will help you do exactly that so you can succeed beyond your wildest dreams in every area of your life.
