Indentured Scholars – The Inner City Scandal is a suspense thriller that reveals the existence of a long-secreted academy that recruits children from the inner city. Television journalist, Synthia Pearson, has been contacted by a frantic mother who is trying to reach her young son, LeDain, who is a student and resident of New Passage Academy. Synthia is soon plunged deeper into the mystery and intriguing philosophy of the academy as she is introduced to the covert and extremely wealthy, Joseph Franklin, an original benefactor. Politicians join an angry community as all learn that the children do not merely attend the academy but are actually raised by the school—parental interaction is highly limited. Turmoil and confusion greet Synthia and her spiritually wounded husband, Chadric, as she struggles with her own painful past that speaks to the condition of many of our city’s public educational systems. Synthia’s search for the truth is unknowingly hindered by the darkened efforts of Fellyard Beedley, a man whose wizened hands have patiently manipulated others across the centuries. All, save for Joseph Franklin, are oblivious to Fellyard’s true presence. Has Fellyard’s reach extended to an academy that has been established for good? Has he influenced the mind of a gifted educator who now seeks out young LeDain for his own perverted interests? Will Fellyard withhold his silent touch on the many inner city schools that processes once promising minds into the ongoing cycle of suppressed achievement? Leery of a secret academy that insists that the child be raised by the school—not by the parents? Before you condemn that young mother, understand that her child’s nightly lullaby is a symphony of gunfire and sirens. Perhaps she prefers that the chalk be in her child’s hand and not used to draw his outline outside her door. W.
