Summary
"Mommy, I Want To Kill Myself" is the true story of a New Jersey housewife whose 10-year-old son climbed onto the roof to kill himself. Through years of demoralizing misdiagnoses, ineffective treatments, guilt, exhaustion, anger at "the system" and ongoing financial struggles, she finally succeeds in finding help, hope, and ultimately health for her little boy.
About the Author
JOAN SWIRSKY, the recipient of seven Long Island Press Awards, wrote health, science and feature articles for The New York Times Long Island section for over 20 years, as well as for The Women's Record, Networking, Distinction, and numerous other regional and national publications. For the past several years, she has written a monthly column on pregnancy and childbirth for Newsday's Parents and Children Magazine, as well as numerous Internet articles.
A former obstetrical nurse at North Shore University Hospital and longtime Lamaze teacher, Joan is a clinical nurse specialist and practicing psychotherapist. She is also the author of 10 books.
She is married to Steve Swirsky, a businessman, and they have three children and three grandchildren.
