Summary

Warrior Obsession is a fictional novel based on the true life adventures of Jack Taylor, recognized by Navy SEALs as the first Sea-Air-Land Commando, winner of the Navy Cross for heroism. The fictional character Tom Traylor in the novel is, like Jack, a dentist, sportsman, yachtsman, pilot and adventurer. He flies with his brother, Brett, in 1938, to meet Baron von Holstein in Austria to fly in an airshow. Brett falls in love Annamaria. He fights the feelings he has, reluctant to become involved with a woman who would keep him from pursuing his adventurous life. He meets Gunther Hammholz, a German Luffwaffe pilot. They share the spirit of the Warrior’s Code, but become rivals, as Gunther is also in love with Annamaria.

The Nazis invade Austria and Tom must rescue Annamaria from them, as she has Jewish heritage. World War II erupts and Tom is turned down for a Navy commission because he is color blind. Through chance he is accepted into the Office of Special Services (O.S.S.) with a commission as a Lieutenant and trains to be a Naval Commando. He is sent to the Eastern Mediterranean and becomes involved in missions in Greece, Albania, Italy and Australia. During these missions, he becomes dedicated to developing the role of the Maritime Commando who can operate on the sea, from the air and on the land. Tom is captured and thrown into the German Death Camp at Mauthausen. How he escapes, has a final showdown with Gunther and finds his love make up the extraordinary exciting climax of the story.
