Summary

"When I Consider the Heavens ... and the Many Faces of God" is the newest book by Zimmie Goings. It is another gift of the heart ... intended in the beginning to be given only to family and friends of hers. She believes though that there are many others who may share her feelings about life ... nature and God, and so has offered the book to them as well. In her book, she speaks of the "many faces of God" ... faces of our Creator seen in the sun and then moon and the stars of His Heavens. She recognizes His presence in the "thunderstorm after midnight," in the "heart of winter," in the "butterfly in the storm", in a July sunset ... or a February snowfall .. the drip of a soft rain ... and His Face as seen in those we meet in our daily walk. It is another spiritual walk, recognizing her relationship with God through her kinship with the outdoors, and the thoughts and feelings that may be shared between one human being and another. She is comforted by the thoughts that she shares with you in her book.

About the Author

Though the author was born in the deep South and relates to that gentler way of life, she has spent most of her life in and around Washington, D. C., residing in Alexandria/Springfield, Virginia.  She spent her young life in a children’s home in Macon, Georgia, with a hundred or so other children who became like family to her.  She is an alumnus of Young Harris College in that town in North Georgia where those of lesser means were able to obtain a good education through means of work scholarships, where she came to love the mountains and the simple ways of life and to further learn the value of friendship, where the environment was conducive to spiritual strengthening and building lasting relationships, and where one learned the art and skill of interpersonal relationships.  She is a mother of two sons and three times a grandmother .  She is active not only in her work life of intellectual property, but in her spiritual life.  She has had leadership experience in the worship areas of her church, rings handbells, and has a long involvement in costuming for the choirs in the church as well as for a local little theater.  Through the varying stages of her life she has been blessed with the company of creative and sensitive mentors, and has herself been described as creative and sensitive in her ways and in her thinking.  She feels in tune with God, His creation, and those around her.  She endeavors to express in her writing the intangible things given her and to stay open to the things that will touch her heart and in turn help her to touch others.  Her strivings speak out to the readers of her Ragged Robins ... JUne Bigs and Bare Feet, Sanctuary of the Heart ... A Song of the Morning, and Not Long Before the Morning Light. And Now ... When I Consider the Heavens .. and the Many Faces of God.

A Letter in the Mailbox

In my mailbox one evening, after a long and anxious day, I found a small envelope with familiar handwriting on it. I am very fond on the sender and so found myself pulling open the note as I walked in the dim of the night to my house. Because I know this might touch your heart as it did mine ... I will share it with you:

"Yesterday I had 'quiet time' to catch up on all my reading. Your Advent and Christmas letter was at the top of my pile. Then when I read .. as I do each day ... my inspiration, who did I think of as a friend in our spiritual family? You!!
Love, K."

Do you stop to think how much your words may mean to someone else ... who perhaps needs a life at a particular moment? A small piece of paper ... a pen with pretty ink ... and you! It can make all the difference ... and often does.

My friend's not gentles the waning moments of the day ... and softened nightfall.
