Sequel to UNLEASH THE EAGLE.
Gary Quester faces an even greater challenge, one that Harry Quester tells him not to take. He must find the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, prevent their use by terrorists and bring back evidence of the existence of WMD. Intelligence indicates that a mysterious figure in Iraq known as The Scorpion has what is left of the WMD and intends to sell it to terrorists.
The CIA Chief tells Gary to go to Iraq and seek out the "Blues Brothers", two prominent Iraqis who will put them on the trail of The Scorpion and the WMD. Gary and his buddy Sam Radison set out on the trail of The Scorpion. Gary enters Iraq secretly and encounters the Blues Brothers and Shahrazad, a mysterious young woman who claims to have seen the WMD. She enchants him with "Tales of a Thousand Nights" stories that contain strange meaning. Gary encounters Krystal Karim in Baghdad and finds that she is on a obsessive mission to find Osai Hussein, the step-son of Saddam who raped her as a little girl. Shahrazad and Gary develop a strange relationship as she leads him on a quest for The Scorpion, complicated by Gary's past relationship with Krystal.
They encounter the notorious son of Saddam, Osai Hussein, in the mysterious Ziggurat of Ishtar, Goddess of Love and War (a ziggurat is a Mesopotamian temple) buried under Baghdad. There they find ancient war instruments, love potions and traces of the WMD. They believe that Osai is The Scorpion and intends to use the WMD against American troops. They begin to follow the trail of the Scorpion up the Euphrates River to Syria. But all is not as it seems, and surprise is in store for them as the trail of The Scorpion becomes short.
