“Sanctuary
of the Heart . . . A Song of the Morning” is
a Fall 2002 publication by Ms. Goings.
It is a spiritual walk . . . her “Sabbath Walks” and
ventures into the heart and soul.
It has come from just there, she says, “from the sanctuary of
my own heart and that of The Lord.
It is not intended to be a textbook on worship but rather
worship as I’ve experienced it and as my spirit has felt it . . . as
I’ve understood it.
It is those things whispered into my soul.
It encompasses, in my simple words, worship as The Bible has
taught it . . . it is about Christmas . . . Lent . . . Easter . . .
the reality of it all . . . its nostalgia. . . it shares feelings of
the spirit that one comes to know in the sanctuary . . . and remembers
those who come together to make magnificent praise and offerings of
love to our Savior.
We know that one of our sanctuaries is within our own hearts.
There are others . . . from a place in a quiet wood . . . to
the dark of night beneath a sky filled with stars . . . to a garden in
our midst . . . to the quiet of one’s own.”
She defines “sanctuary” in various ways and her thoughts
travel often to the quiet of her sanctuary where the room seems at
rest . . . but for The Spirit that dwells there . . . whom she goes to
visit when too much quiet comes to her own soul. . . at rest but for
the memories that speak to [one] from the pulpit . . . from the choir
loft . . . from the organ pit . . . from the skylight that brings
wonderful shadows to the sanctuary walls at different times of day . .
. from tiny tinkling brass bells suspended at the bottoms of Christmas
banners hung there during Advent . . . that play in the quiet of the
room . . . in the recesses of the waiting heart. Click

“Ragged
Robins . . . June Bugs . . . and Bare Feet”
is the newest of
Ms. Goings’ books. She
says with a smile between the lines that “This is not a book of
fiction. . . nor one necessarily of fact or form. . . but one of
reverie. . . where one. . . like a fairy on a summer night. . .
might play hide ‘n seek in the shadows of tall oak trees. .
.catch lightening bugs in a jar. . . or flit through a garden of
ragged robins on a sunlit morning. . . barefoot as a fairy would be. .
. perhaps chasing after dragonflies. . . perhaps having a magical
string from which a June
bug soars in the summer
sky . . . and the
ground is too hot for even fairy feet.
A book of reverie where
one may be lost in dreams of Christmas. . . where angels pin stars
atop Christmas trees. . . and gifts find their way beneath trees way
far away. . . where daydreams travel to places real and unreal. . .
enchanted or un-enchanted. A
book of reverie where one can steal quietly into the heart and find
there an old friend . . . a
kindness. . . a hurt. . . where one may find a smile to soothe the
hurt. . . laughter to
lift the spirit. . . and light, yes, light to show one the way. . .
where one may think of another time. . . another place. . that was
saved for today. . . and tomorrow. . . and tomorrow.

the mountains and the simple ways of life and to further learn the
