Whether he's working the oil patch, dancing the tango, fighting cancer with both fists or sprinkling the Texas landscape with research centers, second-generation oil man Lester Smith's wild-catting spirit extends to every aspect of his life. His passion for dancing led him to the national ballroom dancing scene, where he won two national championship titles. Now, with Trish Morille, he has collected the legendary tales of how he gives back. It's a new twist on philanthropy: all profits go to support breast cancer and genomic research, and the Smith Foundation will provide matching funds. Here is inspiration about the power of giving. Lester's stories are proof that if you want to make a difference - in living, in loving or in giving - you gotta dance like no one's watching!
About the Author
Born in Wharton, Texas, Lester Smith struck oil for the first time on his seventh birthday. Since that time, he has proven that he has such a nose for crude, he has been compared to a truffling pig-and worse. But Lester doesn't sweat the small stuff: he's a survivor. He's seen the oil industry through its bleakest days, and he's gone seventeen rounds with two types of cancer. Each time he gets knocked down, he comes back fighting harder. He has learned to never give in, but to give back, and to love every moment he has. A two-time national ballroom dancing champ, Lester's learned to put his own spin on everything he does, and what he does best is pay it forward.
