Summary

Whether you’re guiding your team down the field, commanding a unit of soldiers, or leading a team at work, leadership ability always defines who will win. Now a new book, Cheerleader, authored by Mississippi businessman Ray Shoemaker, looks at leadership from an entirely new point of view. Shoemaker delves into leadership with a no-nonsense approach characteristic of his military background. He engulfs the reader in the behind the scenes challenges of running healthcare operations in rural Mississippi. Full of real-life examples and anecdotes from the world of sports and management, the book is an easy, informative read that gives you the tools you need to take your leadership practices to the next level.

"Ray Shoemaker has done an incredible job of capturing the essence of leadership—giving people a sense of direction and then motivating them, through cheerleading, to achieve a common purpose.”
—Ronald L. Johnson, Senior Vice President, Referee Operations. The National Basketball Association

About the Author

At the age of thirty-five, author Ray Shoemaker has already enjoyed a brilliant career. After serving as a captain in the U.S. Army, he turned to graduate work in business and healthcare administration. As CEO of Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville, Mississippi, Shoemaker turned a struggling facility into a successful medical practice, increasing revenues by 50 percent in a single year and profits by 63 percent in nine months. His performance gained the attention of the media. The Memphis Business Journal dubbed him “the Turnaround King,” and Modern Healthcare magazine recognized him as being one of the top young healthcare executives in the nation, awarding Shoemaker its prestigious Up and Comers award. As the CEO of Rural Healthcare Developers, Shoemaker has used his successful leadership practices to own or manage nine hospitals and senior care facilities in the rural South.
