Summary
Howdy Forrester, THE fiddler of the opry, spent 38+ years playing on the Grand Ole Opry: primarily with Roy Acuff & the Smoky Mountain Boys and Bill Monroe & the Bluegrass Boys. This is the story of his life, his work, and his music. There are 12 leadsheets from his original compositions, 10 original tune transcriptions, dozens of pictures of his life, and an extensive bibliography and discography, all carefully researched and documented by 500+ foot notes. It is a great read, very inspiring, and contains enough music to keep fiddlers and pickers busy playing for a long time. Forrester composed hundreds of fiddle tunes, incorporated the elegance of Fritz Kreisler into fiddling, and thus made fiddling relevant to a new generation of fans. He also played a strong role in shaping Monroe's bluegrass style. His elegant playing earned him international acclaim.
