Summary
A must-have book for any Arabian horse, or cultural/literary enthusiast. Co-written with Arabian horse breeder Kellie Kolodziejczyk, Bachir Bserani supplies more that just a mere listing of Arabic words with meanings. He transcends this by providing hand picked Arabic names that are easily pronounced by Roman language speakers. The Arabic names are written in both the masculine and feminine form in Romanized Arabic. Next to each name is the English meaning as well as the phonetic pronunciation. This is a very important aspect of the book and what sets this book apart from standard Arabic dictionaries. As with any language, if the sound is not spoken correctly, the meaning of the word may be altered. Futhermore, each name is also written in Arabic calligraphy so that the reader can see the word in the native Arabic language. What makes this book especially charming and unique is the narrative and stories written in the tradition of legendary Bedouin storytelling. Beginning with the origin of the Arabian horse breed, the philosophy behind the importance of giving authentic Arabic names, and the significance of the Arabian horse breed to the Bedouin tribes, the introduction draws readers in and then carries them on a beautiful journey through the Arabian world of storytelling. With exotic tales of the desert, including some of the author's own personal experiences, the stories tug at the heart bringing to the surface the love and admiration people throughout the world feel for these mystical and cherished creatures. In today's world of war and conflict, this book brings us into a part of the Arab world that few ever get to experience. A wonderfully entertaining and truly invaluable educational and reference tool. Filled with breathtaking, full-color photographs throughout.
