Enchanted Tales of China Series

The Enchanted Tales of China Series, as part of the Golden Peach Chinese Culture Readers program, collects and retells the most treasured, timeless Chinese myths, legends and folktales that have captured hearts and imaginations for over a thousand years.  Each story is retold in English for general Western readers interested in Asian cultures and literature, catered to a multicultural and multi-age level audience. For older readers it comes in an English young adult novel format. For younger age group readers, a bilingual format is adapted, with the Chinese text in the bottom of pages as a supplement for readers who can read Chinese or wish to learn more of the language. Also for the younger age group, the series is loosely leveled based on their abilities to understand the culture and history, with the levels color coded for easy recognitions – the orange level is mostly for teenage readers and the green level is more for younger children. Additionally, detailed notes on Chinese culture in the back will help enhance readers’ understanding of the stories as well as of their historical and social backgrounds, while beautiful full color illustrations highlight important scenes.

Praise for the Series by Amy Tan

“These are the stories I've been waiting to read since childhood -- classic tales, vividly retold, and beautifully illustrated in ways that stimulate the imagination… These are magical stories for everyone.”
