Summary
‘Holly Blue’ tells of the loves we have, the loves we lose, the loves we never forget and the loves we will always cherish. It is the story of a Greek girl called Sofia, and tells of her life having to live by Greek traditions; her father’s traditions. From a young age Sofia already knew what to expect from life. Her father made sure that Greek traditions would be followed. He would be the one to decide her life; he would choose a Greek man for her to marry. Perfect. In his eyes! Yet, could she live ‘happily ever after’ if she wasn’t married to her true prince? How could she get married without true love? Will she ever be free like the holly blue butterfly? All Sofia wants to be is a normal girl, to make her own decisions and live and love how she desires. However, all she can do is dream as she can’t disobey her father for fear of what he may do. Returning to Cyprus without him she realises that she is now away from his manipulation. Will she finally discover what freedom is? Will she break free of the barrier surrounding her? Will she finally be able listen to her heart? 'Holly Blue' is essentially a romance/coming of age novel and is the first of a series of three. The follow up 'Just Sofia' is due to be published at the end of this year.
About the Author
Yianoulla, former fashion designer and nail technician, was born in Cyprus and came to England as a baby. She is married with two children, a daughter (25) and son (17). Yianoulla’s motivation for writing ‘Holly Blue’ came from her daughter leaving home. She threw herself into her writing to fill the void, later finding that she was suffering from “Empty Nest Syndrome”. Yianoulla explained: “I have wanted to write for many years, probably since I left school, but didn’t ever dream I would be able to do it. But, I took a year off last year and spent the time writing the book. “I didn’t have any background in writing and no formal training, I just listened to my head and wrote everything down passionately, in my own style. I’m totally shocked I have been able to achieve what I have, proud also, and stunned when people call me an author – I think they are talking about someone else!”
