Summary

The book is primarily focuses on the human papilloma virus; but does include limited information about other viruses (9) in limited detail that have been proven to be associated with the development of cancer. The book has been written to allow non-medical professional to understand some of the difficult issues of cancer. Many of the books that are presently available are limited in their discussion about hpv and its association to cervical cancer. This book discusses additional cancers found in other parts of the body that have been proven to be associated to hpv and in some instances with a dual infection of another virus. The book begins with a list of answers to some common questions that people have about the hpv. The format that follows the answers is in an historical sequence of what was known from the year 1900 to the present time. Chapters are broken down by a  time sequence; each chapter includes the social norms, cultural practices, religious attitudes, medical practices/treatments, and  polical events for a given time period. The book does discuss some of various strains of hpv, self-tests for infection of some strains and specific strains of hpv and their implications to particular areas of the body. The book does list  clinical trials that prove that some selected antioxidants and  nutritional vitamins are important for the body in the defense of viral induced/associated cancers.

About the Author

The author, Larry Herman Gregory, is a high school teacher. He has two bachelors degrees, one in political science and one in comprehensive social studies, from Ohio State University. He wrote his first book, Epidemiology of HPV, in response to his brother's death from cancer. HPV (humanpapilloma virus), which is the largest STD (sexually transmitted disease), in the United States, is now believed to be associated with more virally-induced cancers than any other virus. Mr. Gregory, believing himself to have a cancer similar to his brother's, began reading books and clinical trials from all over the world for answers to questions about cancers.

His ability to comprehend complicated clinical reports and to understand the social and cultural problems related to the rising incidence of cancer, led him to write a second book about the humanpapilloma virus. This book examines past epidemics and pandemics, the history of viral cancer, and the legal and social responses to the discovery that viruses are associated with cancer.
