An Inspiring and Daring True Adventure

Tim and Cindie Travis did something unthinkable and remarkable in mainstream America. They saved their money, quit their jobs, and sold most of their possessions. The plan was to spend the rest of their lives traveling by bicycle to every corner of the globe. With only what they could carry on a bicycle and a meager budget to live on they were completely free to see the world at their own pace. 

Traveling on bicycles allows the Travises to explore remote places, dig deep into hidden cultures, and experience things that few outsiders ever would. The emphasis was not on the miles covered or cycling in general.  Instead, the book describes learning about the people of the world and their daily struggles, dreams, and passions.

On their journey, the Travises rode through some of the most dangerous and obscure places in Mexico and Central America. Desperate poverty and kind hospitality often greet these cyclists on the same day. They encountered unforeseen thievery and life-threatening situations that only straying far from the beaten path could bring. They also encountered the compassion and beauty that is universal around the world. This was traveling on the ground level of society and does not get any more real.

Included in the book is the behind the scenes details like how this professional couple rearranged their lives and said good-bye to everyone they knew and the creative finances it took to enable them to travel for years. The book is often humorous when describing the teamwork successes and pitfalls of being with a spouse 24/7 creates.

The story was written as it happened, on the road, with a small laptop computer carried on the bike.

You will learn about life in forgotten places, discover in yourself the courage to keep going and, nurture your own dreams and sense of adventure. Do not be surprised if you find yourself looking at your relationship to the world and asking yourself serious questions about priorities. About the Author

Tim Travis has been everything from a bicycle mechanic to a Special Education Teacher with a Masters degree.

Tim started riding a bicycles in the mid-1970’s with a Campy five-speed bike, wool shorts and one of those funny leather helmets that cyclists wore back then. The bicycle racing movie “Breaking Away,” hit the theaters and he quickly fell into racing. He was immersed in racing until he graduated from Indiana University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.

Tim excels at being a traveler and a storyteller. Tim spends his days living international bike touring adventures and nights writing about them in his tent.  The ability to capture in writing and photography the extraordinary events that only living cheaply on a bicycle creates is a very special gift to the readers of his books.
