Author
I
was born in a village in southern Germany; left Germany under a
child-rescue operation, Kindertransport, that enabled me to come
to England, in 1939; my parents and brother could not leave, and
were killed. I attended school in England; then had jobs in
factories. Came to America in 1947; first job: elevator
operator; followed by other factory jobs and, all along,
attending night school. Eventually attended Guilford College and
University of North Carolina (Ph.D. in Sociology) became a
sociology professor and researcher.
