Summary
Journey Into Your Center
is a
guide for individuals who have matured sufficiently to take
responsibility for their
lives
and their destiny. It leads you to the subtlest and most expansive
consciousness, and the ways to conduct your daily life in the
context of your real identity, eternal Beingness.
This
is not a quick-fix book offering superficial "how-to" formulae--it
engages you in a process for real transformation of your personal
inner life, as well as of your relationships and your professional
workings. The experiences offered can change your life involvement
from the superficial to the substantive, from the ephemeral to the
permanent, from the illusory to the real. Through this
transformation you achieve the ability to be fulfilled in who you
really are and make a positive contribution to humanity.

Bio
Few people have the knowledge, skills and integrity with which to
make a
profound and lasting
impact on humanity.
For more than thirty-five years, Dr.
Erhard Vogel has been guiding people to realize their true Being and
contribute to the improvement of the human condition. He is
recognized around the world as a Master Teacher of Self-realization.
"Self-realization," he writes, "is what all life strives for. It is
making real our deepest longings and highest aspirations by living,
experiencing and expressing our real identity, and thereby
fulfilling our life potential." Dr. Vogel has based a lifetime of
service on the conviction that Self-realization is the birthright of
every human being.
Born
in war-torn Germany in 1939, Erhard spent his childhood learning to
survive the destruction around him. Facing death at a young age
during the bombardments, he developed the determined focus to
overcome his own fear and achieve clear experience of the meaning
and purpose of life. Thus began his quest to develop the ways to
live in lasting fulfillment.
Erhard immigrated to the United States at age fourteen and worked to
put himself through school. He graduated from the Pratt Institute of
Design in New York, and as an architect rose to a respected position
in a world-renowned design firm. At age thirty-one, he set aside a
brilliant career in architecture to devote himself to the service of
humanity.
Erhard first trained in yoga and meditation in the late 1960s with
Swami Vishnudevananda. This Yoga Master is responsible for having
brought the ancient art of yoga in its pure form to the United
States. His marvelous book, The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga
is the authoritative text on yoga. Erhard was personally trained by
Swami Vishnudevananda and was soon teaching Vishnudevanada’s Teacher
Training Program at his Ashram in the Laurentian Mountains.
In
1970, Erhard embarked on a worldwide teaching tour. For four years
he traveled the globe on foot. He lived in the Arab nations, Iran,
Afghanistan, India and Nepal, thoroughly researching the ways in
which people of different cultures seek fulfillment. He saw the
underlying need in everyone to fulfill their potential.
When
he reached the foothills of the Himalayas in India, Erhard was asked
to teach there among the sages. He instructed them, interpreting
their ancient text of secret teachings of enlightenment, through his
own experience. He established a relationship with a highly
respected lineage of sages in a tradition where each generation
personally transfers their experience and wisdom to the next.
Erhard returned to the West with his teachings to address the
problems and aspirations of our contemporary society. Following a
lecture tour spanning the University system of the United States, as
well as parts of Europe and Canada, Erhard came to San Diego,
California, where in 1974 he founded the Nataraja Yoga Ashram, a
not-for-profit social service organization. The Ashram offers Dr.
Vogel’s teachings and the opportunity to work directly with him, to
the community at large: financial contributions are low enough that
anyone can afford them, and no one is refused due to financial
reasons. The Ashram is a bold venture governed and run solely by
student response to the Teachings.
Dr.
Vogel’s teachings are a unique combination of time-tested wisdom and
pragmatic methods. His fundamental, systematic approach is based
upon sound psychological, physiological and spiritual principles
that make meditation and Self-realization practical and attainable.
He teaches not from books nor from other people’s ideas, but out of
his own profound life experience. His teachings are real—no
hocus-pocus, fantasies or syrup dripping from the sky.
Since 1969, Dr. Vogel
has taught tens of thousands of students throughout the world. In
addition to personally teaching the principal classes at the
Nataraja Yoga Ashram, he lectures, conducts workshops, writes books
and records CDs. He has trained teachers in yoga and meditation from
centers, ashrams, universities and convents around the world. Dr.
Vogel regularly returns to India to teach, where he is regarded as a
Master Teacher, a unique privilege for a Westerner. Students come
from all over to the Himalayas, at enormous expense, to receive
teachings from Dr. Vogel. He also holds a Ph.D. in Clinical
Psychology. His most recent publication, Journey Into Your Center,
adds another important work to an already impressive list of
publications. The book was honored by being selected as one of three
finalists for the 2001 Independent Publishers’ Best Book of the Year
Award.
