From the Introduction

At a Glance

Written primarily for farm and country folks, the first part of Bringing Allis Home  provides nearly 30 true stories, some humorous and some serious, involving work on a typical mid-American farm in the 1940s and 50s with an Allis-Chalmers WC.
The author was a young boy then and spent much of his time perched some where on the WC or on some piece of horse-drawn equipment pulled by it on their hilly family farm near Jelloway, Ohio.
The second part of the book contains various episodes in more recent times that feature the young boy who is now semi-retired and is determined to take a tractor, similar to the one his dad had owned, back to his home farm for one more tractor ride across the seemingly familiar fields there.
Getting the tractor, restoring it, and making the return trip, turned out to be not as easily done as he had thought and leave him wondering, "Was it all really worth it?"
The book contains 44 pictures and illustrations that include the old WC tractor, the original farm, and some old farm equipment of the time. Part II also provides many pictures of the 1948 Allis-Chalmers WD used during the return trip to the old farm that is now owned by Amish.
The cover picture shows the author and the restored '48 WD coming up the lane at their home near Berlin, Ohio. His daughter Kristy took the picture in the spring of 2001.

 The Author
Daniel W. Workman

The author grew up on a small family farm in Northcentral Ohio in the 1940s and 50s and spent a good deal of his life riding on some part of an Allis-Chalmers WC or on a piece of horse-drawn equipment pulled by it.
His many hours of work with this steadfast family friend left a lasting impression on him as a young boy. Enough to easily provide the experience and background for the 30 or more, true tractor-related stories found in the first part of Bringing Allis Home.
For more than 37 years Dan served as a teacher, school administrator, and college professor. Now semi-retirement, he is currently an adjunct professor of early childhood education at a university branch near his home. He holds a Ph.D. in Education along with a teaching and a school superintendent's certificate. He is also a Praxis III Assessor (of new teachers) for the State Department of Education in Ohio.
Dan's wife, Sharon, teaches in an Amish School near Charm, Ohio. Their two children Kristy and Joe, both graduates of Heidelberg College (Ohio) reside and work in the Columbus (Ohio) area. Kristy is a middle school science teacher and Joe is a Program Manager for the Franklin County MRDD Board.
The Workmans, who reside in the "heart" of Amish country near Berlin, Ohio, currently enjoy one grandchild, Kailey Reese Mishler. Kailey was born on May 2, 2002, to daughter Kristy and son-in-law Kevin Mishler.
