About
Liberty for All
Celebrating America's most beloved
symbol—the Statue of Liberty—through the
eyes of photographer Peter B. Kaplan, and the words of
Lee
Iacocca. This
handsome volume, resplendent with magnificent photographs and lively text,
brings to life the world-famous monument, from its humble birth in France
where it was conceived as a gift to America for the country's hundredth
birthday, to its role as a welcoming beacon for immigrants, and finally
to present day, as a symbol of freedom for people everywhere.
Beginning in 1983,
the Statue of Liberty underwent a historic restoration paid for by the
American people. A portfolio of fascinating, up-close images along with
plain-written text portray the old-world skills, modern-day techniques and
simple luck needed to restore a 305-foot copper statue in the middle of a
busy harbor.
With the Liberty
Weekend celebration now but a distant memory except for Kaplan's photographic
record, what remains is the Statue's intrinsic beauty captured for posterity
in this beautiful portfolio.

About
the Author
For
the past 25 years Lee Iacocca has been a familiar entity on
America's business landscape. From his days at Ford Motor Company where he
introduced the legendary Mustang, to his rescue of Chrysler Corporation as
its Chairman and later to his authorship of two best-selling books, Lee
Iacocca personifies America's "can-do" spirit. And as a
first-generation American, he epitomizes the American dream. It was these
qualities that in 1982 led President Ronald Reagan to appoint him head of
a citizen's group to restore the Statue of Liberty and its companion monument, Ellis Island.

About
the Photographer
In
the world of photography, one name comes to mind when there's a need to
show skyscrapers and other engineering marvels from on high — Peter
B. Kaplan. The St. Louis Gateway Arch, the Chrysler Building, the
Brooklyn and the Golden Gate Bridges, the World Trade Center, Toronto's CN
Tower, the Empire State Building, Berlin's Brandenburg Gate and the Eiffel
Tower among others —"Peter B" has done it all. His greatest
subject and his greatest passion, however, stands in New York Harbor: The
Statue of Liberty.
Kaplan envisioned Liberty For All back when he
began his journey documenting the Statue's restoration in 1982. His goal
was to share, through his photographs, his own affection for and awe of
Lady Liberty, and the immensity and drama of her historic restoration. His
unique ability to climb and the use of his "pole" allowed Kaplan
to create images from angles and perspectives nobody has ever seen before.
It is a dream come true to see this vision come to fruition.
