Business Development Manager for Integrated Solutions, had the privilege to be BookMaster’s representative at the International Digital Publishing Forum EPUB 3.0 Working Group this last year. EPUB are files that have transformed the book publishing industry these last couple of years, allowing for the growth of e-Books, e-readers, and other digital devices. The new EPUB 3.0 standard, which is planned to be released in May 2011, will take e-publishing to the next step, allowing for easy integration of text, video, audio, graphics, animation, gaming, and hyperlinking into one file that can be read on a variety of devices.
EPUB 3.0 will be fully backwards compatible with older reading devices but will allow new ones to display foreign language character sets, math and science characters, support reading systems for the visually impaired, and even allow right to left and vertical reading as well as supporting multimedia capabilities. It will usher in the new revolution of enhanced e-Books, combining various media as well as growing to be a truly "international" standard for digital publishing worldwide.
Working with such a talented group of programmers and participants from companies and organizations as diverse as Apple, Adobe, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Pearson, and the Daisy Consortium has been a great experience for Bob. "I've seen first hand the inter-industrial co-operation that will better our industry and our consumers," he said.

Book Fair International - Miami, 2010 (Nov. 19 - 21)
This was the twenty-seventh edition of the fair and The BookMasters Group’s first time setting up and attending. We were
very well received, and this is an understatement as our booth
was very busy every day. So many young and well-versed new authors
wanted composition, editing and cover design, printing
and binding, and guidance right through to distribution. A majority
of our potential authors-to-be and self-publishers wanted
their provided manuscripts—in both Spanish and English—designed,
laid out, and printed in soft cover form. Hispanic people
want their books in the bookstores—especially children's
books—and they want our help. BookMasters was the only selfpublishing
company there that could help with everything, as we
offer all the sources a self-publisher wants and needs.
The booth was so busy that Cathy Purdy’s husband, Bruce,
stayed with her in the booth every day of the show and kept
the flyers on the tables and setting up the books because the
winds were so strong, they kept falling down. Bruce was also
the “unofficial” BMI photographer.
Cathy reports it was
a great show and that
she loved meeting the
people and trying to
help them the best she
could. The leads she returned
with were mostly
for Distribution, until
the raw manuscripts to
quote for composition
start coming in.
One additional note
from Cathy: One self-publisher,
Josephine Alveraz of Lucky 325, speaks fluent Spanish
and lives only 45 minutes away from the fair. She came
to the booth every day and helped with all of the Spanish-speaking
authors and self-publishers. Josephine had us design
her book and print it, and we distribute for her as well.
