Beating the Economic Crunch

Not long before the current economic crisis, many paper manufacturers decreased the number of mills producing offset printing papers. Many mills were old and were being replaced with newer, more efficient mills. However, this was a very expensive move. For a short while, supply was tight and prices went up. Today, however, paper mill capacity is high and prices are lowering. BookMasters is committed to passing that savings on to our customers.

Associated with that paper saving is the installation of our Timsons web press that allows us additional saving on offset papers that we can now purchase in rolls rather than sheets. Together, these two factors have given BookMasters the ability to lower pricing and shorten our schedules without sacrificing the quality of our raw materials.

In publicity, your message is delivered through the media and through channels such as your networks and your contacts' networks. In contrast to advertising, you don't pay the media to deliver your message, but convince it to deliver it in its articles, reviews, and programs. The media may deliver the exact message you provide, or write or present information about your book in its own words, style, or format.
 
Publicity is effective because the public tends to think of the information it gets from the media as news. So, it gives publicity more credence than advertising does, which the public knows is bought and paid for by advertisers. Advertising is perceived as being big on hype and short on truth, while information provided by the media is generally accepted as true.

There's a hot new trend going on right now and it's called micro-blogging. So what's a micro-blog? And moreover, what's Twitter? Twitter is a micro-blogger platform that allows users to create entries that are only 140 characters in length. These entries are referred to as "tweets." Originally designed to keep friends and family up to date on what you're doing, Twitter can also be a great place to share your latest book project and promotional ideas as well as interacting with fellow tweets (folks who twitter) and writers. And yes, you can have a blog and a Twitter page. I have both but I feed my blog into my Twitter site so that my Twitter page gets updated each time I add new content to my blog. There's an easy application to add your blog feed to Twitter, it takes just minutes to do. Head on over to: Twitterfeed

To sign up for a Twitter account just go to www.twitter.com and complete their short sign-up form. Remember to brand yourself! This is important. Once you create a Twitter account you can't go back and change your name so find something that works for you. Maybe it's fictionwriter or businesswriter or whatever you want. My Twitter page is bookgal which is a fun play on words for what I do (and what I love). Once you have a Twitter account you can immediately start tweeting. The service is completely free and you can also keep up with other people's tweets by "following" them. Their micro-blog entries will show up on your Twitter home page so you can easily keep track of them. You can also be notified by phone when they add a tweet. You can twitter from anywhere, even your phone. I've been known to twitter from my blackberry.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair, known as the world’s leading children’s publishing event, is fast approaching. This year’s spring meeting will be held at the Bologna Fair Exhibiton Centre, March 23rd through March 26th.

From April 20th to 22nd, it’s not only springtime, but also book fair time again at Earl’s Court, London, the place to meet the global publishing industry.

In 2008, London Book Fair brought more than 25,000 publishing professionals from all over the globe together; among them 5,300 publishers from more than 100 countries, close to 2,000 booksellers, and 700 librarians.
