Spotlight on Author Charlet Faye
Coloring Your Imagination With Words
AtlasBooks met recently with author and public speaker Charlet Faye, who discussed her experiences in publishing and her latest children's book, The Chilling Adventures of Marshall McCaw.
Her second book, Marshall McCaw is the first in a three-volume series introducing the colorful rainforest guardian, Marshall McCaw. Charlet chose a Michigan artist to illustrate the series, but admits that they have never met in person. When presented with samples of Audrey Heddock's work, they discussed Charlet's concept for the series and the two became instant collaborators. Her mastery of color brings the story to life with brilliant expansive scenes while staying true to the heart of the story and complements Charlet's flair for vivid and descriptive writing.
The first of Charlet's two children's books, The Feather Dusted Easter, was interpreted as a ballet in 1999 on the South lawn of the White House by Pamela Moore of the National Ballet School and Company.
Having been invited to the White House to attend the Easter ballet, she was ecstatic to have her book recognized again, this time with an invitation from First Lady Laura Bush to attend a breakfast reception and the 2001 annual Easter Egg Roll held at the White House.
On the heels of her first engagement as a Keynote Speaker addressing a group of 500 at a midwestern Young Authors Conference, Charlet and family arrived at the White House, bearing a signed copy of The Feather Dusted Easter for Mrs. Bush's library. Along with a handful of other authors, Charlet met with the First Lady in the White House Blue Room for a photo shoot, and delivered the winning Young Authors essays as a gift of achievement to Mrs. Bush.
She has graciously allowed us to reprint both the letter and photos received from Laura Bush.
From the Author ...
"With her background in Education and Library Science, I was extremely honored to have The Feather Dusted Easter recognized by Laura Bush.
"Knowing her interest in and her activities as a champion for literacy, I presented Mrs. Bush with the winning essays from the 2001 Young Authors contest as a Gift of Achievement. The act of presenting the work of these young authors gave me a feeling of relevance, and to the kids, an additional layer of recognition.
"The sense of accomplishment was wonderful. I had experienced many challenges in publishing this first book, but I do not recognize boundaries. This experience validated my optimism about launching The Feather Dusted Easter and instilled a sense of determination.
"The journey has been a long, interesting and endlessly rewarding one."
