Cal Byers was born in North Carolina. After college, with a degree in art, he became the creative art director for his own agency for twenty-six years. Being responsible for hundreds of advertising campaigns from conception to print, he became proficient, not only with the visual effect of printed material, but also with the written word. Over the years he has written countless magazine articles, newspaper articles and brochures throughout the southeast. In 1990, Cal published a successful series of children's books, which he wrote and illustrated. More recently, he published Esteva and Last Breath, both fiction novels. "Creating characters and working in color illustrations are very time consuming but at the same time very fulfilling. In writing novels, I paint those colorful paintings with my words," he says. His next novel, Track Down, is a sequel to Last Breath and will be

Presently he lives in North Carolina and the
Bahamas. When not writing, he enjoys
snorkeling, exploring, traveling, hiking and nature in general.
