Government Marketing Best Practices started as a seminar in 2002, and has been delivered in over 20 cities around the country. "After each seminar, I get asked when I will return to that city (the famous 'I wasn’t able to make it…' or 'I did not hear about it until it was over…'). So the book became a necessity." Amtower continues, "It is also necessary because, though the government market is the largest market in the world, there are very few books on the topic." The seminar version of Government Marketing Best Practices puts together all past and current research. The book is the result of twenty years studying what makes the B2G market different and explaining what works here and why. "The research has been ongoing since I started Amtower & Company in 1985 after trying teaching college English, Government Computer News (circulation director), an ad agency, and selling training to the government," Amtower says. "It has been a long haul, and well worth the journey, which is far from over." Mark is married (Mary Ellen) and has two children (Elora 11, Travis 7) as well as one cat named Cosette. When he's not giving seminars, Mark enjoys reading, listening to country music, collecting and throwing knives, and playing with his kids. "I also spend a fair amount of time driving my kids to their non-school activities," he laughs.
