One of our favorite pieces of advice to new book authors is to write what you love. There’s always going to be that temptation to write a book that fits into a “hot” genre, but if you’re writing the book to impress others or to sell a lot of copies, it’s going to backfire because your heart probably isn’t in it. Besides, what’s popular is always shifting. If you start to write a novel that fits into a popular genre today, it’s possible that genre will have lost its luster by the time you finish the writing, editing, and publishing process. Instead, write what you love. Here’s why:
